Board of Directors

Patty Mongold - President
Patty Mongold joined the Board in the spring of 2009. She is currently an Executive Vice President and the Chief Operations Officer at Mt. McKinley Bank, where she has been employed since 1976. She is a member of Sunrisers Rotary Club, the City of Fairbanks Permanent Fund Committee and the Fairbanks Pioneers Home Foundation. She previously served on the local Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters and Fairbanks Counseling and Adoption.  She is a past co-chair of the Fairbanks United Way campaign.

Jim Baird - Vice President
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education from Iowa State University, Jim Baird taught vocational auto mechanics in Fairbanks area schools for 17 years. In 2001 he founded Industrial Art’s Learning Labs, Inc., (named for a favorite shop teacher he had growing up) to offer hands on training to a broader spectrum of students. He is also involved in the arts in Fairbanks, building sets for the North Star Ballet, FLOT, and Opera Fairbanks. He joined the Board in August 2014.

Pam Wentz – Treasurer
Pam Wentz joined the Board in September of 2010. She is a Vice President and branch manager at First National Bank Alaska, where she has been employed for over thirty years. Pam is also a member of the Fairbanks Sunrisers Rotary Club, and serves on the Fairbanks North Star Borough Investment Advisory Committee. She has previously served as treasurer for Lathrop High School Baseball, Little League Baseball, and American Legion Baseball teams.

Laura Shaeffer - Secretary
Laura Shaeffer is the office manager at SBS Retirement Consultants, LLC. Originally from Watertown, South Dakota, she holds a Bachelor of Science in English/Commercial Economics from South Dakota State University. Laura relocated to Fairbanks in 2012 to join her husband, Michael Shaeffer, a college classmate and fellow South Dakotan, who has been teaching high school English and drama in Alaska since 1999. They spend their free time supporting local theatre, exploring Alaska, and traveling to see friends and family. She is happy to have the opportunity to get involved in the Fairbanks community.

Monte L. Jordan - Member
Monte Jordan has been a board member since February of 2002. A retired State of Alaska, Department of Labor employee, she occasionally works as a consultant for local attorneys in matters concerning Alaska Wage and Hour Law. Other community affiliations include: Fairbanks Sunrisers Rotary Club; Fairbanks North Star Borough Salaries and Emollients Commission; North Star Youth Mediation Corps/Volunteer Adult Mediator; Alaska State Court-Fairbanks/ Small Claims Court Volunteer Mediator; Equinox Marathon Advisory Committee; Equinox Kids Marathon; Running Club North Volunteer/High School Track and Field; Mush for Kids Volunteer; and Hospice of Tanana Valley Volunteer

Todd Henderson - Member
Mr. Henderson has served on the board in excess of 15 years and previously held the position of Treasurer and President. Mr. Henderson comes from a financial services background having worked in the banking industry for 10 years. He moved to construction and business management for the Brice Companies in 2001 and is currently Chief Financial Officer of Brice Companies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Calista Corporation.

John Hargesheimer - Member
John Hargesheimer owns and manages an environmental engineering and industrial hygiene consulting firm, NORTECH. John is an active community volunteer and has been appointed to several local and state advisory positions and served on the Board of Directors of The Alaska Science and Technology Foundation and The Alaska Manufacturer's Association. John has been a member of the Board of Directors of The Carol H. Brice Family Center since 2005.

Carolyn French – Member
Carolyn French joined the Carol Brice Family Center Board in the summer of 2010. As the owner of Santa’s Travel World in North Pole for twenty three years, she has now passed that torch and is working her way to that next phase of her life which includes volunteering, grandchildren and a long list of neglected friends and projects.

Steven Billa - Member
Steven Billa has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and has worked in Fairbanks with Nortech Engineering since 2011. His work experience is primarily focused on saving energy in public facilities. Steven joined the Board in January of 2014 and is looking for ways to become more active in the community.

Ben Roth - Member
Ben Roth has been on the Board of Directors since 2008. He is a principal in SBS Retirement Consultants, LLC, and holds degrees in Business Administration and Economics from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Ben is also a trustee on the Greater Fairbanks Community Hospital Foundation. He is very active in the community, serving as an investment manager for the UAF Alumni Association, and is a member of the UAF Alumni Hockey Association.


Brianna Gray - Member
Brianna has a Bachelor’s Degree in Rural Development from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, a master’s Degree in Leadership/Human Resources from Walden University, and a Master’s Certificate in Government Contracting from Villanova. She currently works in community planning for rural communities for the Tanana Chiefs Conference and is a Board member of the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District Diversity Board. Brianna joined the Board of the Brice Center in January of 2016, and is looking forward to becoming more active in the community.

Honorary Board of Directors

Carol H. Brice
The founder of The Carol H. Brice Family Center, Mrs. Brice has a long history of community service in Alaska. Her professional experience includes her own business, Family Training Associates, in addition to work with the Alaska Foster Parent Training Center, University of Alaska Fairbanks, Tanana Valley Campus, KAYY Radio, and The Fairbanks Daily News Miner. She has also been involved since 1978 with the Fairbanks Child Protection Task Force, Inc., and was a co-founder of both The Resource Center for Parents and Children and the Fairbanks Head Start program. She has also been involved with the Fairbanks North Star Borough Early Child Development Commission, a Trustee and Chair of the Alaska Children's Trust Board and numerous other non-profit groups advocating on behalf of children and families. For her lifetime of work advocating for children Mrs. Brice has received numerous honors and awards of distinction.

Valerie Demming
Dr. Valerie Anne Demming is a licensed professional counselor. While living in Fairbanks she was an active volunteer for many non-profit organizations including being an original founder and past president of The Foundation for Parents and Children (currently the Carol Brice Family Center). She lives in Anchorage, Alaska and maintains a private counseling practice.

Tara Bellion
Tara Bellion an Honorary Board member of The Carol H. Brice Family Center with a professional background in environmental consulting for URS Corporation. She has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2002. In addition to her work for The Carol H. Brice Family Center, she is actively involved with the Fairbanks Council of Parent Teachers Associations and the Board of Directors of the Fairbanks Alpine Ski Club.

Cullen Wallace
Cullen Wallace attended local schools and graduated from UAF with a BA in Economics. Mr. Wallace is a realtor with Madden Real Estate and has 12 years of experience in residential commercial property management. He is NAR Federal Political Coordinator for Senator Murkowski , former president of the Greater Fairbanks Board of Realtors and was 2009 Realtor of the year. Cullen sat on United Way's Compass Steering Committee, served on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club and has been associated with The Carol H. Brice Family Center since 2003. He enjoys sports, fly fishing, travel, reading, cooking and volunteering.

Brad Clark
Brad Clark served on the Board from 2003 to 2008 contributing his experience in facilities management, construction and landscaping gained from his work history with Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and Johnson River Enterprises. Brad moved to Fairbanks in 1982 to attend the University of Alaska. He is currently employed at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital as a Medical Staff Recruiter. Brad loves Fairbanks’ eclectic composition and enjoys running, backcountry hiking and cross-country skiing. Brad currently serves on the board of the University of Alaska Yoga Club and recently completed his 200 hour yoga teacher training certification.

David Lanning
Mr. David Lanning is a Civil/Structural Engineer and is the owner of Lanning Engineering. He has served on the Board of Directors for North Country Credit Union (1998-2001) and was a member of the Platting Board for the Fairbanks North Star Borough (2000-2001). His affiliations include: the American Society of Civil Engineers, Member and past President of the Fairbanks branch of the National Society of Professional Engineers, Member and current President of the Alaska Society of Professional Engineers, Tau Beta Pi(an engineering honor society), and the American Institute of Steel Construction, Professional Member.

Mike Cavaliere
Mike Cavaliere is an attorney with the Fairbanks Law firm of Hompesch & Evans, P.C., where he has been employed since moving to Alaska in 2003. Prior to moving to Alaska, Mike practiced law in Montana and Connecticut. Mike graduated from Quinnipiac University School of Law in 1997 and received a Masters in Tax Law from New York University in 1998.
